"There's magic all around you..."

Hello, all. I've been on the road with Cinderella for about three weeks now, so I suppose its time for a little update. Had a week of rehearsal in Philadelphia, which is a beautiful, awesome city by the way. Kind of like the trendier parts of Brooklyn, but much cleaner. Our director is Dennis Edenfield, who was in the original Broadway production of A Chorus Line for about 10 years and was a protege of Michael Bennett. Woot. He was really nice and fun to work with. We then drove to Greensboro, North Carolina to do our first show. Had shows in Raleigh, Wilmington, Durham and Charlotte. My mom's cousins came to see the show in Durham and brought homemade brownies for the whole cast. I love Southern hospitality :)
We stayed in a Super 8 in Wilmington and I swear there were hookers turning tricks there. Fortunately, most of the hotels we've stayed in have been a lot nicer than that. We did a little sightseeing in Charlotte, then we drove to Asheville for a show, but it ended up being canceled. Asheville is actually one of the most beautiful towns I've been to. Its a little mountain town with lots of unique local shops and restaurants and art. We ate breakfast at a Vegan-friendly place called Early Girl (one of the girls in the cast is Vegan so that was really nice for her) and they had tons of local artists drawings/paintings all over the walls. Very cool.
After that, we drove through the mountains in a snowstorm to get to Nashville. Very scary, but we made it in one piece. Our tech director, Ryan, took us to the place where he works in Nashville called the Wildhorse Saloon to see the Gypsy Kings. The Wildhorse is a really awesome three story bar and concert venue. Then we went to Coyote Ugly and the girls danced on the bar. Jennifer (our Cinderella) even made $20. lol!
After Nashville, we drove to Memphis for a show and then visited Graceland. Some of the cast did the big tour of the whole estate, but I opted out to save $...but I did do the tour of Elvis' private jet, the Lisa Marie, which was pretty cool. Oh, and our hotel was all Elvis themed and even had a guitar-shaped pool!
Then it was off to Fayetteville, Arkansas, where we ended up having four days off. The hotel we stayed in was really strange...they had a carpeted indoor courtyard with a pool and a hot tub and restaurant. So people could watch you swimming as they walked to their rooms or ate lunch. Kinda creepy. But it was nice that we could go in the pool even when it was snowing outside. There was a lot going on in Fayetteville. We went to Devil's Den State Park and did the 1.5 mile hiking trail which included lots of caves and cliffs and whatnot. We also went to a place called Lokomotion, which is like a redneck version of Tampa's Malibu Grand Prix. We did mini-golf, go carts, laser tag and arcade games for $10. It was pretty sweet. Oh, and we played against a bunch of 5-10 year olds in laser tag. LOL. Back at the hotel, there was much drinking and sexual energy. I blame it on the hot tub. We ended up playing a game of truth or dare which resulted in people jumping into the pool in their underwear and then everyone getting in the hot tub, where I was dared to make out with every member of the cast. Which I'm sure is why I now have the flu, lol. Ah, youth. Oh, and we also went to a drag club (yes a drag club in Arkansas...bizarre doesn't even come close) where one of the drag queens was dressed like Idina Menzel and danced to "Take Me or Leave Me" and "Out Tonight" and another looked like someone's Nana. It was tragic.
El Dorado and Fort Smith, Arkansas are both blurs to me. They are in Arkansas. There is nothing to do there. And we are constantly inches from being arrested.
Right now, we are in Little Rock. Today, we went to the museum at Little Rock Central High School, the site of the Little Rock Nine historic integration standoff.
Brief interruption...I'll finish later!
