SakuraWatch is now on Facebook!
Join the group! And force your "friends" to join against their will! Greetings, Katsucon/Gallifrey nerds!
It was chilly and windy today. Rain is predicted for Saturday, though Sunday should be dry in the afternoon and Monday should be rain-free. There are plenty of flowers today despite the recent rain and wind.
Not the EXPLOSION of pink we hope for, but the presence of a lot of buds gives me hope that there will be a few decent trees for next weekend too.
The ducks are laughing AT you, not with you.
As you can see on this map, I've broken the SakuraWatch down into five zones.
This year, I will be focusing on only four of these zones:
1: along the west side of the lake
3: north of the entrance, by the dirt lot
4: south of the entrance, on the grassy knoll
5: the west side of the peninsula that extends into the lake
Zone 1: Lakeside
These pics start at the south end and progress north.
Zone 1 currently has the worst showing of blossoms. As you can see in this shot and the three shore view pictures below, the coverage is sporadic.
The new trees are blooming decently.
Further north, it's kind of hit or miss.
Some of the trees are kind of half-covered, like this one.
A closer look shows that there are still more flowers on their way.
It's in bloom, but we've definitely seen fuller blooms.
What the duck?
It was windy, and the water was choppy.
Zone 3: North of Entrance
North of the entrance, are the best flowers in the park.
Especially along the edge of the big mud lot, the trees are in full bloom.
Further up the rise, the trees are not as full.
Some of the trees are kind of half-and-half.
There are still some flowers on their way, should be coming in soon.
Zone 4: Grassy Knoll
South of the entrance, it looks pretty weak. There's one or two good trees, but the rest are kind of half-assed.
Some trees are like this one, half flowered and half dormant.
Completely in bloom on one side...
On the other side, the barren limbs appear to have some kind of fungus.
Not a lot of excitement in this zone. It may improve, but not a whole lot, I think.
Zone 5: Peninsula
Things are coming in on this side, but there is room for improvement.
Some nice sakura by the water.
Up on the grass, things are still developing.
Lots of buds gives me hope.
At least someone is enjoying the bare trees.
Some folks just can't be bothered.
A bit of bloom by the bamboo.
Ducks enjoy the creek.
I am king. Kneel before me, my subjects!
"According to the map, we should be able to see the sakura blossoms from here."
"You guys swim if you want, I'm winging it."
The view across the lake, toward the northeast.
The sakura at the far end of the lake are also coming in.
Sakura adorn the area directly north of the Zone 5 peninsula.
