Trash the Dress Originally uploaded by
JinxedKisses Recently I did a "Trash the Dress" photo shoot with Rob Zalas of Titan Visuals and I'm really impressed and happy on how it turned out. I got married almost five years ago and it feels like the whole world has changed since then. My life is headed in a completely different direction and I have grown more than I can possibly imagine. Although I feel like I am over the heart ache of my broken marriage, I was having a difficult time knowing what to do with my dress. Over the past few years I have had to move it repeatedly and each time I ached a little bit inside. So, trash the dress I did.
Taking the dress out of the box was a surprisingly intense experience. I hung it up and looked at it and I felt as if I was in the bridal store all over again and it was just as beautiful as I remembered it. I was scared it wouldn't fit, but it fit me better now than it did then. On the day of the photo shoot it was difficult to get over the delicacy of the dress. It was hard not to want to protect all of the bead work and delicate fabric and I was still terrified to get it dirty. We were lucky to have beautiful weather for the shots at Olbrich and Tenny Park beach. Although the water was frigid Rob was generous enough to get into the water with me to get the final shots in the lake.
After the shots in the lake were done I tried to leave the water but the dress has two layers of fabric in the skirt and gallons of water filled in between. The dress suddenly weighed ten times what it had when I went into the water. I was quickly unzipped and jumped into a robe, leaving my massively heavy dress in the sand. Rob picked the dress up and with my suggestion we hung it in the huge tree that I had posed in. It turned a beautiful golden red, dripping in the setting sun. It might still be there.
*Important Note* I have no intention of hurting the feelings of my ex-husband with this photo shoot.
