Went to Film Fatale last night, which is a vintage movie night at the Sugar Club, here in Dublin, and it was a mixed success. The first part of the night was great fun. Pretty much everyone made some sort of effort to dress vintage, and not only the women - I've never seen that many snappy suits in one place before! The cocktails were mildly amusing and the popcorn girl looked like she'd stepped out of the 50s. The movie was North by Northwest and I always enjoy watching Hitchcock films.
But the evening kind of slumped after the movie. The blues band were amaturish and sloppy, especially considering this was supposed to be a regular set, and the DJ afterwards tended towards the kitshy end of forties/fifties music and not in a good way. I was hoping for more big band rather than bebop.
Still, everyone looked pretty, and the first half was still rather fun - I just have to remember to bow out before the band if I go again!
