And so I figured I can't ask for podfic at my
new comm if I'm not willing to make a fool of myself and produce my own. I had a try yesterday and decided to stick to something something short and sweet for my first offering, as I figured I'd probably stumble over a few bugs on my first try - I wasn't wrong there!
I decided to record
Of Blood and Time, a ficlet I wrote featuring Drusilla from BtVS and 'John Smith' (Ten) from Doctor Who
Problem number one - having an Irish accent. If I was writing fic for Father Ted, or Black Books, this would be brilliant... but I'm not. The majority of the characters I write for have British or American accents - and I can't do accents. I do do an atrocious mockney voice, however, as you'll soon discover if you listen to this!
Problem Number Two: a decent mic for the computer. I have a mic, a lovely mic - to plug into a studio wall! The headphones and mic I used for this is a bit crackly and hissy. I got spoiled in college, I think. Also, the sound levels were difficult to manage as the mic has a really sensitive pick up, and even the slightest change in position buggered up the audio. [insert more general moaning here]
Other than that, it went okay I think. I flubbed a few times, but I edited the worst of it out, and I have this weird lispy thing going on, on occasion (village becomes willage!) - but hey, it's done, and I got a chance to try out my Cool Edit programme and while it's not as fabulous as a Tascam desk, it is a lot more versatile than I thought it would be. I might be a bit more adventurous next time!
For those looking for a listen (and a bit of a laugh at my expense :-P) here is a link to the file. It's 4.05MB and a MP3 format!
