Christmas in the rice fields is over! That would be, for those of you who are curious, the small Christmas party that I was hosting here by the way. Next week is the big drinking JET Christmas party (and I leave the week after that), but I had wanted to do a small, "traditional" party at my house. We listened to Christmas music, watched some Christmas movies, opened presents, and ate all sorts of snacks~!
Technically, it was really two parties as some people came over Friday-Saturday, and others came over Saturday-Sunday, due to various scheduling conflicts. Both were fun, but I will admit that I was a little irritated when some of the people in 'group 1' were a bit, um, bah-humbugy. As in, making fun of my Christmas music (stuff like Trans-Siberian Orchestra and the Ramones and Cheap Trick and the Eagles, etc.) and picking on the movies I downloaded for us to watch. The movies were all ones I remember watching year after year with my brothers, so they're all special and nostalgic for me, corny or not (The Muppet's Christmas Carol, The Claymation Christmas Special, the original Grinch, and A Charlie Brown Christmas).
But, other than that, it was a great weekend!
In other news, I've been listening to Lady Gaga a lot and... I really like her! It's sexy and poppy, and it makes me dance around my house. ^__^ She has a very 80's sound, and while I won't claim that it's great music, it's fun.
In other, other news, I was pretty exhausted after everyone departed and so just goofed off on the internet. Would like to share some fun links I found relating to Canada/America.
Hard times have hardened attitudes in the United States, according to a trove of new research that suggests a record number of Americans see their country as a waning superpower that should mind its own business and let the world fend for itself.
Yet Canada remains overwhelmingly popular in the eyes of Americans, topping the list of all foreign countries with an 84 per cent favourability rating in the U.S.
Together with surprising new data that points to rising U.S. support for free trade even in a time of recession, analysts in Washington say Canadians should not be jarred by the developments: If Americans are in a mood to hibernate, they say, Canada has a special place in their den...
"People are turning inward. But at the same time, Americans don't see Canada as part of that outward world." (
Canada still America's BFF despite rising isolationism "No other world relationship is as important to the United States as its relationship with Canada," Mr. Jacobson told the blue-chip crowd. (
Obama wins news making award; U.S. Ambassador accepts on the President's behalf And the title of this one made me blink my eyes a few times, but I do find it interesting (if not surprising) that Canada is going to stand with the US on this one:
Canada to twin climate change policy with U.S., says official And, uh, this wasn't in the news but I thought it was particularly nose-bleed-worthy:

the sudden deluge of art featuring America in rabbit ears (U.S.A. = usa = usagi = rabbit), but I approve!
