BASTET
Represented as both a domestic cat and a fierce lioness, she truly evidences traits of both. She is the Mother of All Cats, Goddess of Sensuality, Fertility, and a guardian and protector of women. She is also one of the Eyes of Ra, and in that aspect is an Avenging Goddess, seeking retribution and punishing enemies of her people. Luxuriant amber, warm Egyptian musk, fierce saffron and soft myrrh, almond, cardamom and golden lotus.
This reminded me a lot of MAMA-JI, minus the floral. That's probably fitting as they're both mother goddesses with a gentle side and a fierce side. However, while MAMA-JI was more incense and flowers, BASTET was incense and musk, with a hint of amber in the background. I liked it a lot but the musk was a tad much for me. Again, I don't care for musk but I'm sure someone who's fond of it (my mother loves it), would adore this scent. I should note that sniffing this on my wrist reminded me of burying my nose in my cat's fur and cuddling him. So, it's a good match between scent and name. Possible trade.
ASPHODEL
The grey and ghostly flower that fills the fields of Hades.
I loved this one from the moment I sniffed it. A simple, light, haunting floral. It makes you pictures a field of long green grass dotted with little grey florals, but one utterly empty save the wind and yourself. My only complaint is that it faded so quickly; only a few hours (~4) of scent life in this one.
TIGER LILY
A feisty bouquet of golden, warm, gently honeyed lilies.
This makes a wonderful compliment to the ASPHODEL; sun to it's moon. Smelling this is like being out in the sun on a warm spring day, sprinkled in golden honey. Lasts longer than the ASPHODEL too.
FENRIS WOLF
The raw, untamable power of chaos. Rosewood, amber, red musk and a dribble of red sandalwood.
My god. Dark. Rosewood and red musk, this smells like heat and darkness. If it's possible to be scared by a smell, this would do it. Think things hiding in the warm, dark heart of the earth: the first evils and the primal terrors... For those who've seen The Neverending Story, this is what Atreyu must have smelt in the ruins where he met the G'mork. Although it wasn't my favorite, my friends told me it suited me perfectly. Heh. What's that say about me? Possible trade.
JABBERWOCKY
And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Come whiffing through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!
An earthy yet buoyant scent: pine, eucalyptus and orange.
Note to self: avoid pine/orange and heavy musk scents in the future. Strong pine with a tingle of eucalyptus. Good for Jabborwocks wandering through the tulgey woods, not so good for Ish; it utterly refused to blend with my natural scent. However, my friend Kathy tried this on herself and she loved it. (It did smell better on her than on me.) Trade.
COYOTE
The Native American Creator / Trickster God of Chaos and Change. The warmth of doeskin, dry plains grasses and soft, dusty woods warmed by amber and a downy, gentle coat of deep musk.
The animal musks of COYOTE and BASTET are similar, but this is more similar to ANTONY with it's leather and grasses scent. I prefer ANTONY, but again, if you like musk, go with this one. Later in the day this faded to a nice, dusky scent that I really liked. And yes, I do have a thing for trickster gods. ^__^ Possible trade.
I tried to make a little chart for my oils on excel at work but it won't seem to copy over right in livejournal. I've attempted to re-create it as best I can here for those interested in a summary of my opinions and so on. Trades and possible trades are marked to. (A possible trade means I haven't quite made of my mind about it yet, but you can make the first request if you'd like.)
