So I went to class today, worried about my sort of 適当 ending to my paper, and I sit for 15 minutes with Brennen and Ieun, the two prospective students. Eventually I checked my mail and realized that Joan's out for surgery for the next two weeks (i.e. this week and next). We're trying to work it so that we can still meet by ourselves for workshop tomorrow and next Thursday which I really hope we do. Frankly, I don't want to sit in a different workshop and critique stories from a different class. It sounds nerdy, but I'm pretty disappointed that there's no class (I guess if you're not nerdy you aren't in grad school, especially not for something like Creative Writing) and I'm worried that I've found a new mentor who may just up and disappear thanks to health issues.
While waiting for the train to come back and drop the car off for new break pads and to investigate why the check engine light keeps coming on, I noticed that across the street there's these sad row homes that have had the neighboring building knocked down and they look really bizarre, like a mouth missing teeth. All I could think while looking at them is "this is what black people's houses look like; (thinking of where I grew up) this is what white people's homes look like."
Waiting for a call about the car so I can go pick it up and (hopefully) not have to part with too much money, while simultaneously talking to Linh and Rachel about 同窓会 related 困る (or 篭る, as I accidentally said). Gotta do the dishes so I can make lunch, too.
