Watched Dead Silence on Saturday and Bourne Ultimatum on Sunday. Both shows were pretty good but the plot of Dead Silence was somewhat of a letdown.
Dead Silence is about puppets. Ventriloquist puppets to be more exact. The only thing creepier that those things are clowns. And their related puppets. The epitome of creepiness would be a clown ventriloquist puppet, wouldn’t you say?
Anyway, at the end of the show, it leaves you with an unsatisfied feeling. The hero dies so obviously there is no sequel. Also the evil puppet has completed her revenge. So what next? Does she just collapse on the ground and the ghoul move into the light? Or in her case, the darkness? Not a neat story at all.
Then it begs the question of how the perfect puppet was created and why didn’t anyone see it when the creator was alive? The thrill of the story was there but it doesn’t draw you into the show. Those kinds of shows will leave you with a creepy feeling even after you leave. Those are the best. This was not one of them.
Moving on to the Bourne Ultimatum. The show was done in a gritty manner, like as if the camera man was filming with a handycam. The shakes, the zooms and the panning will give you a headache something fierce. Somewhat like the (in)famous Blair Witch Project.
I guess these techniques are used so you focus on what they want you to see and not get distracted by the other things. But the plot was good, if somewhat predictable but I would say the fighting scenes are the most enjoyable, even with the frequent changing of angles and zooming etc. Guess the technique makes the fights and the chase scenes look more impressive too.
And so I came out with a slight headache. @_@ A ★★★★★ movie indeed. Some came out with a ★★★★★ headache... hee hee... But I have to clarify tho, I did enjoy the movie. Just not the shaking.
A good thing was that it was on the free list at GV and the $2 off scratch and win cards (which they gave out in June/July) could be used. (^_^)V
