wedding update

now, for something completely different....

wedding plans are going along very smoothly so far (except for the inevitable mother vs. daughter battle that happens rather regularly, but thankfully with little damage to either side).  we have a chapel with reception site, a photographer, a caterer, and a dj.  i have a dress, boustier, borrowed slip from ashley, tiara, and shoes (though no veil yet).  the bridesmaids have all sent in their orders, i think, which is good.  the flower girls (one from daniel's side and one from mine) and ringbearers (also one from daniel's side and one from mine) have been chosen and have agreed to be there with bells on (bells optional).  invitations and save-the-date cards have been ordered and will be delivered to the alfred angelo store sometime this week, i think.  we're cutting out at much as we can, because our budget is finite.  so that means a friend is dj-ing, we are driving away in daniel's car rather than a limo, and there's no alcohol at the reception (but really, it is at noon on saturday - no need for getting smashed when it's still daylight, ne?)  daniel and (i think) the groomsmen will have free tuxes because an uncle-in-law kind of guy owns a tuxedo shop and will let us pick what we want with little or no charge.  the only big things i have left are chosing a florist and a cake.  after that it's all details... and details are where things fall apart!

so far things look like this

bride - andrea
matron of honor - becky
bridesmaid - mia
bridesmaid - ashley
bridesmaid - kelela

groom - daniel
best man - wes
groomsman - chris
groomsman - casey
groomsman - chris

ushers - michael, chris, and matt (if he's not in japan)
yes, i know we have 3 chrises in this wedding - they are burry, may, and josephson (respectively)

colors: dark purple (eggplant) with white or silver accents as needed
theme: asian/japanese (there will probably be some chinese/japanese fusion going on, but i want to keep it as japanese as possible rather than throwing TOO much chinese into the mix, though i doubt anybody but me will ever realize the difference)

i'm thinking of the bridesmaids holding fans and flowers rather than just boquets.  mom wants favors (i don't but oh well) with little chinese takeout boxes that have almonds (for health, wealth, happiness, something and something (there are 5 for some reason)), maybe a fortune cookie, and some hershey's kisses (because who doesn't like chocolate?).  she wants to tie a little ribbon onto the box with some chopsticks attached and place them at tables.  *shrug*  whatever.  i want to fold origami cranes and sprinkle those around for decoration on tables, buffet tables, and maybe even the cake!  i think it'd be neat.  i found a place online that i can get purple or silver origami paper for $8.40 per 100 sheets.  i think i might go ahead and order those so i can get to work on the suckers.  it will take a LONG time to do a lot of them.  i am putting the ones i have in a box in the closet... the kitty likes to chew on paper and a couple of my practice cranes have succumbed to being her playtoys.

so bridesmaids, tell me what you think... fans + flowers a good idea?   of course, i'll have to check with a florist first to see if they can work with us or have any ideas for us with using fans as well.  and what about chopsticks in hair?  i wouldn't require a bun or anything like that - you could do half-up half-down or any which way as long as you could put a couple of hair sticks with some dangling shiny beads on them?  too much?  too crazy?  preference on hairstick colors or dangly things colors?

that's where we stand.  mom is coming back into town in either august or september to help me out with a few more things.  any ideas?  suggestions?
