I'm happy to announce that my short story, "This Story Will Win a Hugo," which originally appeared in DAILY SCIENCE FICTION, will be reprinted in the FAR ORBIT - APOGEE anthology that should be out in October, 2015.

Looks like this wasn't the best year to have a story eligible for a Hugo that was entitled "This Story Will Win a Hugo."

A reader on my Facebook page commented with "What are the Hugos good for?" to an earlier post of mine, where I reposted a Katherine Cramer article about all the good writers who hadn't won the award.

I think the easy answer is "not much," but the Hugo winners I've talked to have told me that there actually are numerous benefits to winning one, ( Read more... )

The Science Fiction Writers of America, SFWA, gave their annual Nebula Awards for excellence in writing this weekend.

First, I want one.  The award is a solid block of lucite with a representation of a Nebula within.  When I see it, I think, "The galaxy is on Orion's belt."

My wife shot a video (shaky, hand-held, low resolution, etc.) of most of my acceptance speech at the Colorado Book Awards.  What she missed because our camera was uncooperative was the beginning of the story that this video picks up in the middle.  When I was a finalist for the John W. Although Gardner Dozois's The Year's Best Science Fiction: Twenty-Seventh Annual Collection, is not scheduled for release until tomorrow, it is up at Amazon.com with the "look inside" feature, which is interestingly cool for a reader, and disturbingly copyrights infringing for some authors.  I was able to read Gardner's summation for the year, ( Read more... )

The Radio Magician and Other Stories won!

Today the Colorado Humanities and the Colorado Center for the Book gave their yearly awards for books by Colorado authors.  The selectors chose 43 finalists from the 146 works submitted, and then from the finalists they chose a winner for each of the thirteen categories.  The ceremony was in Aspen.  My book ( Read more... )

My novella, "Harvest," in late 2008's Alembical, made Ellen Datlow's Honorable Mention list in volume one of The Year's Best Horror.

I cast my nominations for the Nebs today.  SFWA members have until tomorrow's deadline to get their nods in.
