I watched "15 Minutes" with Jenn and Kamenoff tonight. It's about two foreign killers who whip New York into a media frenzy and kill their way to avoiding jail by being perceived as insane. De Niro and Edward Burns star in it as the cops after them, and it makes a pretty strong statement about how retarded the law can be and how the loopholes in it can counted on. Despite doing poorly in the box offices, its a terrific movie, and one of my favorites. Great acting, cinematography, direction, and editing. It's fairly violent, but fans of cinema should like it.
I went to Fernandina last weekend for my cousin Tyler's Graduation. The ceremony was short, with no speaker. One thing I found of interest was that the valedictorian read aloud a bible verse to her classmates (not in a I'm-going-to-impress-my-religion-onto-you but instead in a good-advice-and-insightful way). The verse was 1 Corinthians 13. I found this to be very cool because despite years of Sunday School and Confirmation Classes, it is about the only verse that I can recognize upon hearing it, and can at least stumble through and describe the gist of it upon request. So that was interesting to me. It's a very applicable verse to life, especially to those at the milestone of graduating high school. Check it out sometime.
The rest of Fernandina was ok. It had been 2 years since I had last been. It's grown a little, but is still the same little town. I was disappointed that I didn't get to eat at KPs Deli or at Moonriver Pizza (which were two of my main reasons for going) but I did get to see a couple of old friends. Some of them should be coming to visit my in Orlando at some point, so that would be cool. I also saw a lot of family. My uncle has a new motorcycle. It's a cruiser made by Honda, and he let me drive it, which was awesome. I'd never driven a heavy bike (nothing bigger than a moped, actually), nor had I ever used a hand-clutch. But I managed it fine. The steering's different than you would expect - an odd combination of wheel turning and weight distribution. I didn't try to take it out of the neighborhood, which I felt was wise. The best part was that I was riding it with no helmet, a polo shirt, and flip flops. That had to be an interesting site to watch some preppy/surfer dressed kid driving a fairly heavy bike.
Now that I'm back in Orlando I've been spending time with Jenn, and time keeping up with classes. Summer semesters are so condensed that you can't fall behind and expect to catch up. The whole 6 week period is kinda a "oh shit, gotta catch up" experience. I've had a test in my Human Resource Management class and got an 88 which I was very happy with (the statistics said that I was 1.8 std deviations above the average of 70.8, so go me) and I have a Macro test the day after memorial day. So hopefully things will be fine.
My parents are coming into town this weekend. This will be the third weekend in a row that I've seen them (met them in Perry, GA on Mother's Day weekend, saw them at Tyler's Graduation, and they'll be in Tampa for a meeting on Friday, so are coming to visit me here). Hopefully this time when they come see the house it won't be full of drunken idiots knocking holes in the wall like the last time they were here. My Dad and I are going to play golf at North Shore thanks to my big bro Matt hooking us up (thanks a ton) and then we'll probably take advantage of Jenn's discount at Planet Hollywood that night. I don't know much else to do, since Orlando doesn't have much cheap entertainment. We'll figure it out though.
That's it for now. Take it easy all yous kids.
