BACKDATED TO JANUARY 19-20.
Kelly:
Yesterday, Ryan and I went into the city to redeem my birthday extravaganza.
I got home from school at 1:45, picked out suitable attire, made myself decent,
and generally prepared for the night ahead of me.
I drove to Ryan's, waited for him to take a shower, put on mascara, and fixed my
hair.
Then we packed up, and headed out to catch our 4:15 train.
While on the train, I got a phonecall from my mother:
"Your debit card is here."
Combined, Ryan and I had $8.60, 2 one ways to Chicago,
An expired CTA card (and one with questionable funds), no checkbook, no credit
card,
And one debit card with a missing mag strip.
We wouldn't even have enough money to get home.
I think that we panicked a bit at first.
Then we got our heads on straight and tried to form a plan.
The bank! (Closes at 5!)
That wouldn't work... we wouldn't reach the city until 5:39.
Ryan:
I have been regretting removing that magstrip more and more every day. I cut it off because I spend like a fiend. But I originally got it for emergencies. It has proven mighty difficult to use in my emergencies. We needed to be at a Blue Man performance at 7:30. After we got off the train, we tried several things to get money for at least a train ticket home so that if all else failed, we could at least get home at night. Eventually, Kelly ended up pawning off Hollister gift cards to some poor schmuck at Ogilvie. We got 40 bucks from the deal; enough for dinner, subway entry, two one ways on metra, and some change.
Blue Man as cool as I remember. It was Kelly's first time, but my second. I looked over at her face at one point in the show to see the expression of a seven-year-old receiving his dream Dyno BMX bike with four begs and gyro handlebars. She is beyond adorable.
The next night we experienced Pirates, Zombies, Jesters, and Con-men. All in fantastic 4-D.
Waaaaay too uninterested...
