There was news he never wanted to hear. Disappearances were always hard in general, but a sort of fact of life. All relationships came with that looming overhead, but it wasn't like death wasn't the same way. Still, there were core people who he never expected to ever leave - people who had been there for so long it was an almost staple they were there.
John was one of those people.
News traveled fast on an island so small. Jim almost couldn't believe what he was hearing, and actually had to have it repeated to be confirmed. John was gone. Just like all the others, he was gone. Any thoughts of getting things done were out the window once he found out, and he returned to his hut, for once glad Pam and Sam hadn't come back. It gave him time to digest the news - or as much as he ever could.
John had been there pretty much for it all. He was one of the few that got him through his first months, that brought Pam to him when he realized they knew each other. After that point, he couldn't really remember a time when he hadn't been around for him - during his wedding, Sam's birth, Pam's disappearance. He was the one who essentially hit him over the head for being stupid about Pam when she came back, and one of the reasons why he decided to take the plunge. All of that and now he was vanished, like he was never there in the first place. It brought on a useless feeling, one he hadn't felt since he woke up the morning Pam disappeared.
He didn't want to deal with this again. He didn't want to deal with it ever again. Just like before, he found himself struggling to keep himself together, sitting on the bed as he attempted to calm himself down. He'd have to break it to Pam, soon. And Sam - he didn't even want to think about when she'd notice he wasn't there anymore.
It wasn't right. None of this was.
