Ya know, I'd heard about this on the radio this morning, but until
26376 linked to some articles, I didn't realize exactly what Oprah's new television venture meant.
Until now.
Apparently, Oprah's upcoming "OWN Network", which will debut sometime next year, is going to be taking the place of the Discovery Health Channel (which is, apparently, "underperforming"). WTF MATE!?!?!?! OMG, I love that network so much, I want to marry it and have its babies! You can't take my DHC away!!!! Sometimes it's the only channel that offers interesting programming (to me, at least, but then again, I'm a nerd).

Okay, so I believe Oprah will be successful in further expanding her media empire, and that's good, because she is a woman who takes charge and does good, but still, can't they like open up a slot or replace some other network instead? (Like, say, the Speed Network or the Golf Channel, LMAO.) I know, I know, Discovery already has a very broad offering of channels, but dammit, I like DHC. I mean, you put Dr. Oz up against Dr. G - Medical Examiner - HELLO DEATHMATCH!!! (Literally, LOL.) What will become of all those fascinating medical programs, I wonder? I mean, they wouldn't really fit in elsewhere (don't even say TLC, LOL), and I don't see how they can be "underperforming" when so many people I know watch it. (Of course, we all may be dorks just the same, but well-educated ones!) Okay, so DHC and TLC do overlap a lot of their programming, but there's still plenty more fascinating medical shows that just wouldn't quite fit the more "family-friendly" TLC lineup.
I worry that Harpo may just be expanding her empire a bit too quickly; not that she doesn't have "branding power" and a strong voice and is quite the advocate for, well, all of humanity, but, what happens when/if she burns out or something? Or if she starts to lose steam? What will she have on her talk show if all her special guests are on this network instead? Hrm. She does say she'd probably wrap-up her current show in favour of this new network, but I dunno...can we really take 24/7 Oprah? She didn't even stay behind Oxygen all that long (which I didn't realize until I read one of the linked articles), so what's to say she wouldn't do the same here? Okay, so I'll hold out judgment for later; I'll give OWN a chance, but I just worry it might disappoint a bit.
Sorry, I just had a lot to say about this, apparently. Clearly I need more hobbies. ^_^
