Oh dear, I have truly created envy and desire in others with my Wii! My Mom sent me an E-mail last night (which is rare enough, since she can and usually does just call me or whatnot) asking where and how she could find a Wii, and the best way to combine/bundle, or whatever. Her tone sounded desperate; she ended the message with HELP!!!! (OMG, HALP!!!!) She's wanted one ever since she tried mine out, of course, but this is a fifty-something year old woman, and it's just hilarious! I'd almost be tempted to just give her mine, but hells no...it's mine! MINE, I TELL YA! *HUGS AND PETS HER WII* (Nevermind I'm at work, and my Wii is not actually here with me...yeah.)
Although, this is really nothing terribly new and unexpected (and several of you have heard this before); I remember back when we got an Atari 2600 when I was a kid (like 4 or 5), and my parents I think played more than us kids did, LOL. I remember my parents having Asteroids and Combat wars with each other on more than one occasion. And they didn't grow up with video games like us Gen X-ers have, which is funnier yet! Ahh, good times.
I figure the consoles will be more readily available before long (the supply bounced back quickly after the original 2006 rush, if only I'd bought an extra when I could find them - d'oh!), since the Holiday rush is mostly over (I'm sure there are still many trying to get them who couldn't before Christmas), but hopefully I can help her find one soon, before she gets too desperate and say, breaks in in the middle of the night to play on mine, heh heh. Although I'm gone all day at work and she has a key, LMAO. Besides that, we do, after all, have the Nintendo of America HQ here in Washington State, heh heh. But, I remember seeing them in Wal-Mart and in the storefronts of Game Stop late last Spring and Summer, so it's not like they'll never appear again - I just plain got impatient and decided I couldn't wait anymore when I bought mine last March, basically.
Anyway, it's just hilarious and surprising sometimes to see how parents are really no different than the rest of us "youngsters" ("Touching Generations", indeed!), which I guess is a good thing, and does bring a smile to my face in what is otherwise a bit of a frazzled time. I'm doing better, though, but still, it's a time of adjustments yet for me, work-wise.
