Of Mice and Men...

(I couldn't resist borrowing the title, heh heh. A very interesting book, by the way.)

Okay, so I'm highly amused by my co-workers today, because apparently, my cousin Brian spotted a single "mouse dookie" (as he called it) in the office this morning, and ever since, everyone is like playing SKEERED! They sent someone out to buy traps, and they had me order some Riddex units to place around the facilities (the old ones they've used for years don't seem to work anymore), and they are talking about it like it's the end of the world or something! I know they've had a problem with them before, and they can easily get into the factory (and they found mice PEWPS down there too), so I suppose they're impossible to completely get rid of, but why the mass chaos, you know? They are SO squeamish over this, and it is hilarious! Mice are kind of cute, okay? They may smell and leave messes behind, but if it's just a random one that came through and not some colony or infestation, let's chill, people!

Seriously, I don't get it. Okay, so there are things I hate (caterpillars...*SHUDDER*), but honestly, mice? They're not that scary at all! I mean, do you guys think they're that bad, compared to other things? Maybe I'm just weird, but I have no problem with mice. Okay, so we don't want them in the office, and they can carry nasty diseases, but seriously...mice are no big deal. Well, perhaps a pit full of them would be icky, but one mouse, naah. And hey, any creature that likes cheese as much as I do is a friend of mine! ^_^

Rats, on the other hand, are more nasty, but even then, not that bad in moderation! I remember seeing them all over the place in NYC, especially in the subway tunnels, and really, I didn't care! They were in their space, and I in mine, and we co-existed without any problems! Of course, in a place like New York, I think you just *have* to get used to seeing them and accept it. (See, there must be a reason I feel so drawn to NYC, no, not because of the mice/rats, but because I could adapt to the environment!)

We have some construction going on all around us (the infamous "Sound Transit Light Rail" project), so we're bound to see "critters" getting displaced and the like, but hey, it's not like we're all going to die and need to be paranoid about them. I've personally seen live voles and birds get in the building before, and never seen this kind of panic from those! Ugh, seriously, it's the funniest thing to see them talking about it all day like it's a big deal. You corral or trap them, move or dispose of them, whatever, and then get on with it. I admit, it would be HILARIOUS to see how these people would react if a live mouse happened to skitter through here. I wonder how high they'd jump or loudly they'd scream? Heh heh...ideas in my head. Right, so if someone covered my desk with live caterpillars, I'd probably go ape shit, but that's not the issue here right now. ;@ )

And because I want to know what others think, I made a poll! Yay! I realize we all have differing opinions on how we feel about "critters" and "varmints", so go ahead and tell me. I realize I may just be weird for not taking it more seriously, but geez, neurotic much over an itty-bitty mouse? Okay, so maybe I am just insanely weird, but that's no mystery!

It is teh funny. I personally think we should get an office cat to hunt down critters and entertain us. (Although I don't think a cat would fare well around these people and the occasional paint fumes...)

Poll Itty Bitty Critters and Varmints!
