It was late afternoon by the time Jill found herself ready to return to New Atlantis. Rodney had gone back only a few hours earlier and she'd promised to be there that night, prepared to follow him soon after he'd gone, but her stop up at the Compound had changed her plans a bit. Information seemed to spread like wildfire on the island and she hadn't been there for longer than half an hour when she heard that Chris was gone, too. That brought the total to three now. Chris, Teyla, Alec. Three people gone and she hadn't been close with them all, but it was more than a significant reminder that everything here could be taken away in an instant.
With a bottle of wine in her hand, Jill returned to New Atlantis, but headed straight for John's hut instead of Rodney's. It pained her to realize that this was becoming something of a tradition, but she needed it; she needed the wine and the ferris wheel and John's company and she knew they'd never say it, but she expected he needed her, too.
Rapping her knuckles sharply against his door once, Jill waited, holding the bottle of wine by the neck, letting it dangle against her leg. Reluctantly, she let her gaze wander across the clearing to where Teyla's hut stood and she frowned faintly before looking back down at the wine. She meant what she'd said to Rodney; this was awful, but more often than not, it was worth it. Of course, that didn't do much in the way of comfort when someone actually ended up disappearing. No matter how worth it their friendship had been at the time, it still hurt to lose people.
"Hey, John, come on," she called, knocking again. "We have an appointment."
He had to have been expecting her. She'd known since Rodney had come to tell her about Teyla where she would be spending her evening.
