Anyone who's worked retail knows that the holidays brings out the crazy in people. Usually it just manifests itself in the form of bitchy comments or screaming brats, but occasionally it gets a little bit...stranger.
At work yesterday I was on my hands and knees re-shelving a pile of books and I literally came face to face with a cat...in a pink, sparkly tutu...on a leash. The leash was held by a young-ish woman who could be the poster child for crazy cat ladies - cats on her shirt and on her sweatpants. So I did the only rational thing that occurred to me and asked her if she needed help finding anything.
Unfortunately, at that point I encountered her husband (apparently one of that rare and elusive species known as 'the crazy cat man') who demanded to know if I'd read this book called "Dewey the Library Cat" and proceeded to loudly proclaim at length what an incredibly awesome, amazing, etc, book it was (Disclaimer: I've actually read the book in question and it's not a bad read if you like animal stories). I couldn't get a word in edgewise and he went on enthusiastically (and I mean really enthusiastically) for about five or ten minutes about the book. I could only smile and nod and try to say all the right things to get him to end this rather awkward one-sided conversation.
When he paused for breath, I did the honorable thing at that point and fled for my sanity (okay I didn't flee so much as develop a pressing need to organize the Travel section in another part of the store). Even then, though I was half-way across the store I could still hear the crazy cat man/husband ambushing other people, apparently in an attempt to tell everyone in the whole frickin' store about this blasted book.
Apparently they're regulars in Chapters - I've just somehow managed to miss meeting them in the 3+ months I've been working. ⌐_⌐

Does anybody else have any weird customer stories? I don't mean the garden-variety rude/annoying ones, I mean the ones that are truly bizarre.
