When I went to Vancouver for Boxing Day I found a store on Granville Island called Candy Kitchen that imports candy from around the world. Out of (morbid) curiosity I bought a type of candy called jelly babies (they're British - I remember them from the Harry Potter series though I'd thought they were one of Rowling's inventions). It seems like a totally bizarre thing to turn into a candy - "Yes let's give our children sweets that look like other children so they can EAT THEM - it'll be good practice if they ever join the Donner Party or are in a plane crash in the Andes..."
They were actually quite tasty.
