I bought a couple of prickly pear fruits at the store about a week ago and today I finally gathered the courage to cut them up. First of all, they might be de-spined but they still have these sharp little hairs that stick in your skin and bug you for ages. Son of a b*#%^!! D:<
I figured out that the best way is to just hold the fruits in paper towel while I cut them up. I sort of butchered it until I worked out that the waxy fruit skin can actually just be peeled off with your fingers if you get an edge started with a knife. I cut them in half lengthwise and ate them like that. They're quite juicy and the seeds in the middle are hard but edible, and if I scooped them out I'd be taking most of the fruit out with them. The taste is difficult to describe, it's a bit like kiwi, a bit like banana, and bit like strawberry, and bit like I have no idea what!
I sort of liked them, although I'm not sure if they're something I'd eat again just by themselves. Maybe mixed in a smoothie or a drink of some sort.

I also finally managed to finish chapter three of that WW2/Transformers fic I'm writing. Holy fuck, that took forever! I still need to edit it, but I'll hopefully have it up soon, if anyone cares to read my one of my crazier fic ideas.
