So where did I leave off? Ovan gone, AIDA gone, now Cubia shows up out of the blue? Didn't I take care of that SEVEN YEARS AGO?
OH BUT WHO CARES ALKAID IS BACK. ALKAID. Look, this is where I come out as a shameless Haseo/Alkaid shipper. I'M SORRY. Atoli is a very sweet girl, but I cannot BELIEVE it's actually canon. *rolls around in horror* kjahsfjdh they're so cute FORTUNATELY FOR ME when the marriage event rolls around I can PICK WHOEVER I WANT. BWAHAHA. TAKE THAT, CANON.
Cubia was pretty lame. Level 130+ took care of it easily. But uhm. The final boss?
OH MY GOD WHAT IS THAT. EW. EW. It was ridiculously easy to beat but OH MY GOD. GIANT BALL SAC WITH WINGS=NOT VERY SUBTLE.
As a reward for beating the final boss, I got the reason I'm playing this game at all:
ZOMBIKITE. :3 IN MY PARTY. He FLOATS. I love him. ♥
So now I'm maxing out affection and finding and doing quests. It took me AGES to do the Forest Of Pain. 100 levels is stupid and excessive. I remember it briefly from the anime that I didn't watch. Its also one of the many parts of this game that rely too heavily on the anime for plot and comprehension. The "Farewell Macha Grunty" quest actually made me go "AWWWWW!!!" and squee and wibble pretty hard. I'm short one character (Natsume) and working on getting her.
Now. Zelkova. Haseosexual: y/n?

For a while I was pretty convinced Zelkova=Helba. But now I'm not so sure, because he really does come off as someone very young, and not someone pretending to be young. I entertained the idea that Zelkova could be Helba's child, which would explain how he knew so much and yet still seemed kind of boyishly fascinated with Haseo. But it the end, nothing it known about him. :/ Except that he is adorable.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
.hack//G.U. didn't live up to the .hack legend. I think that compared to the first, it was utterly gorgeous. The characters were completely amazing and memorable. In the first series, this was not so much true. You had your core characters, Kite, Blackrose, Elk, Mia, Mistral, etc., but you had some tagalongs that you really never got to know or care about (Nuke, Gardenia, Moonstone, Rachel, Marlo [Seriously, I had to look half of those up because I didn't even remember.]) The reason I liked G.U. was because I liked the diversity of the characters so much.
The plot, not so much. The coma thing has been done in every previous installemnt of the series. ANOTHER NETWORK CRISIS. OH NO. It relied way to heavily on the anime for back ground, when, to the best of my knowledge, the anime never finished airing in the US. Now, the original .hack made occasional references to .hack//sign. You ran into Bear and A20 and you saved Sora and met anime-Macha, but you did most of this in side quests or as bonuses. The whole of the plot of G.U. relies on the idea that you know and care about who Shino and Ovan are, and if you don't, you have no idea why Haseo is the way he is. I've seen a large chunk of the anime and I STILL don't care about Ovan. So when I spent TWO DAYS fighting through the Forest of Pain And All I Got Was This Stupid Epilogue, I was pretty pissed. (Ovan. Haseosexual: y/n?) Also the arena as an integral part of the plot was stupid and predictable. It was fine in one game, two was a stretch. Three was ridiculous.
I still don't understand any of it. I never really understood the first series, but I could get behind it: Morganna, rogue AIs taking over the internet the phases, you know. Whatever. But suddenly the phases are GOOD and we're sing them to fight...what, a virus that disapeared halfway through the third game with no consequence whatsoever? And the "children of morganna" are fighting Cubia...why? I DON'T KNOW. SHUT UP AND ENJOY THE GAY.

ETA: The guy who voices Yata also voices the G-man in Psychonauts. Everytime a battle starts and Yata says "You can try wishing, but it won't help," all I hear is "I am glad you are here, to help me trim the hedges," or "over the years, my husband will desire me less sexually, but he will always enjoy my pies." Instawin.
