You all have at least one: the family member who, when you mention you mention a particular friend's opinions, sniffs, "Oh, you mean an online friend. Not a real friend."
In my case, that would be my (otherwise wonderful) sister, and I'm off to sleep on her couch all Labor Day weekend, surrounded by my family of extraverts. (Ah, growing up the only introvert in a family of extraverts...it has lasting effects). This is counterbalanced by getting to see my two nieces, who are cuter than anyone who shares genetics with me has a right to be.
After Labor Day I'm heading to West Virginia to meet up with
damo_in_japan and shepherd the lambs--um, I mean, stay nearby and be there if our students need any support--until Sept. 20. It's very unclear what kind of Internet access we'll be having, but if I can find anything stable I'll be posting the first stories in the movie-based series while I'm in WV. The working title has shifted to "The Music of the Spheres" and it's rather less of a pure romp than I imagined at first, but I'm having a lot of fun with it.
Just in case I do find myself trapped without Internet access...if I comment regularly on your stuff I'd be so indebted to you if you could shoot me a link at daeriel ++at++ gmail dot com. I know I felt a little silly doing that when other people were away, but now that I'm heading off into the wilderness I realize how valuable it would be to have people tell me where their stories were so I can find them when I do have access.
Cross your fingers and wish me stable Internet access!
