Scans: Trinity #5

Some very nice fight interaction, good relational work, and fun below the cut!

And one rather annoying thing.  >_<

When last we left Our Heroes, Batman was about to get jumped by an alien while Superman and Wonder Woman fought the other alien.  We pick up in mid-fight:

This has nice artwork, but I'm not used to seeing Superman's features look that small in relation to the size of his head. Those relative proportions should make him look more adult, but actually it makes him look younger. Odd effect.

Sometimes it looks fine, other times it's distinctly off. Same with Diana's face...

Seeing superherone outfits that seem designed like thongs really makes me wince--not for feminist reasons so much as practical ones. Artists should be required to wear something like that for a day or two before they throw female heroes into one. :)

I love that you post these - makes me all giddy.

Totally agree about "that page"... guh, what an inane conversation. It kind of bugs me the way they have her looking at them over her shoulder as in "lookee me, I'm a sexy female" -- so pointless... what do these guys care anyway? Readers, of course, are another matter. ;) I s'pose it would have been too hard to replace her original comment by something "intelligent" like, oh, I dunno, "I'm definitely going to need medical attention, aren't I?" - the injuries look to be more evident on the back of her shoulder, as far as I can see, and so she wouldn't see 'em too well...

...um... ok, I think I'll go to bed, instead of trying to outsmart comic book writers. The sun is about to come up, over here. LOL! ;)

Thanks again for posting these. :D

I'm not sure it shows, but I like them a lot so far! I'm still pretty hopeful.

That would have made a lot more sense and would even explain her odd stance! "Could you take a look at that burn on my shoulder blade, guys?" would have worked just fine. *sighs*

I'm in total agreement that the last conversation was totally pointless.

Diana, you're a fully grown woman. If you don't know that you need medical attention whilst clutching your injured shoulder, you don't need somebody to tell you; you need an effing Darwin Award.

Honestly, does she have to bring gender issues into everything? No man I know would refrain from stating the blindingly obvious because he's scared of patronising somebody, they're men; stating the blindingly obvious is their birthright.

It's frustrating because it's like they think this is some kind of fresh and open conversation about gender issues, but mostly it's just kind of...I dunno...obvious? Stale? She and Clark were so awesome in the fight scene that it would have made a lot more sense to just talk about the fact she needed to head up and get checked out. Ah well. Most of it was great! As long as they're not being heavy-handed, all the intractions are working quite nicely.

I think the problem is, is that Diana doesn't HAVE anything else. It's her only schtick. She's been reinvented so many times in suck radically different ways that no one has a flipping clue what to do with her anymore. her most iconic portrayals are as an empowered feminist and that doesn't make for anything better than a flat character.

She hasn't got the depth or motivation the Clark and Bruce have, she just hasn't got the decades of baggage they've got that make them so rich. she's just got a little totebag that says "feminist" on it.

I rarely like Diana. I want to like her, but She's got A list powers and an A list costume and a D list characterization.

Oh, you've expressed perfectly what I've been thinking about Diana. She's been retconned and written so many different ways that there's just no core to her (sadly and ironically)--she's been redefined and reinvented so many times (mostly by men) that there's little to work with. I'm hoping Busiek can give her some kind of...personality...but we shall see. I agree, I want to like her a lot, but there's so little about her character that one can point to and say "Yes, that's what Diana is" that it's really difficult.

That scene is definitely annoying, I almost hated it in fact. If she's hurt, then she's hurt. Whoever tells her to get medical attention shouldn't be an issue at all.

But in any case, I'm glad that the title is back to focusing on the Trinity again.

Yeah, the Trinity's doing a bit better screen-time-wise. I do hope we don't get many "Wow, it sure is hard to have a chick on the team" moments. *rolls eyes*

Yeah, Diana knows when Clark's man is calling! ;)

That was a great sequence. As was the boys together in the alien ship.

I was annoyed by the 'wound' sequence, too, but took it that Diana was teasing them (Clark even says she's enjoying it) and Bruce just cuts in and says she needs medical attention, LOL!

Hmm, this issue has given me a Steve/Diana bunny. Hopefully something will come of it. :)

I do agree Diana's teasing, and I did like that Bruce just ignored it. I appreciate trying to get a handle on each member of the Trinity's sense of humor--they each can be written quite humorless and I'm glad they're trying to find that spark.

Oooh, Steve/Diana bunnies! Awesome! :)

I thought it was really nice that they showed the Trinity joking around (Bruce was not but you know he'd slip in dry wit here and there).

Wonderbunnies are fun! ;)
