yes i know; i'm a loud-mouth. but i have to say it. my msa is pretty tight with the community here in blacksburg, via the ol' masjid. so we're all one big family with a shared e-mail listserv. sometimes you get e-mails about deaths, marriages, etc. but the most amusing ones are for births. *without fail* the email will go something like this:
Assalamu alaikum,
we are habby (gotta have the egyptian accent) to announce that Brother _____ and his wife have given birth to a baby girl. blease make dua (prayers) for them.
Walaikum assalam,
i-dont-know-her-name
yeah. because we all know that babies just kind of land in the arms of their fathers. and the mom may or may not have a name.
ah well. chalk it up to my angry feminist side. ahahaha.
