You're a pancake, Harry.

I saw the final Harry Potter movie last night.

Oh my god. I cried. Several times. I didn’t think I was going to and then this scene happened:

And my fangirling of McGonagall turned into a blubbery mess because I realized as they were preparing the castle for battle, this was the END. I’ve been a Potter fan since the 90s. YES, THE 90s. My grandmother gave my brother the first two books and I stole them and read them both within a day. I’m pretty sure the third wasn’t out yet, because I remember reading it later on a trip to my other grandparents’ house. It wasn’t until my junior year in high school when slowly, my pals had discovered it as well and we had something in common to gush about.

Now, I realize that the book version of Deathly Hallows was the End. But this was the END end. There’s nothing to look forward to anymore.

Anyway, onto the movie!

* Our audience was super enthused, though they did laugh uproariously at parts that weren’t necessarily funny. Did anyone get that Warhorse trailer? Because we laughed all the way through that one.

* Oh god, it was like 80% action. It’s to be expected, but they amped up everything to fill out the movie. But I never felt like it dragged on… or a bit in a couple parts, but it was only when I just wanted to get to the Mrs. Weasley part.

* When Voldemort was walking through all the blood of people he had killed, both Bunny and I were like “OH GOD, IT’S ALL STICKY” and then “THIS IS A BIT MORE GRAPHIC THAN I EXPECTED.”

* Prof. McGonagall = HBIC

* Neville Longbottom = BAMF.

* I was sitting there, trying to figure out who the Gray Lady was… KELLY MCDONALD. I love her. DID NOT REALIZE SHE’S VOICING PRINCESS MERIDA IN ‘BRAVE’.

* Me crying part II: Harry seeing all the dead. By this point when I was reading the book, it got to a point where “oh, another one is dead… oh, Tonks is dead… oh, Lupin is dead…” But in the movie… they did that bit where both Tonks and Lupin reached for each other just before the battle started and their fingers didn’t touch. And later when you see the two of them dead and lying next to each other, their fingers still don’t touch. And that HURT. I was so glad they omitted their weird storyline.

* Me crying part III: Snape’s memory. I’ve never been a Snape fan. I find him to be an interesting character, sure, but was never a fan. But OH GOD. He emoted like no one emoted before. BB!Severus and bb!Lily were adorable. (Nerdrage moment: wasn’t Lily’s eyes supposed to be green? You have your mother’s eyes… the only likeness he got from his mom. AND THEY WERE FUCKING BROWN.

* Me crying part IV: when he meets up with his parents, Sirius and Remus. OH GOD, KILL ME NOW.

* From then on, I was pretty okay. Epic!battle was epic.

* Ends on a shot of the kids leaving Hogwarts. Fade to black… cut to 19 YEARS LATER. AUDIENCE COLLECTIVELY GROANS.

* WHO THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA? I’M LOOKING AT YOU, JK. At least the Happy Harry Potter music came back. It hasn’t played over the opening titles in a couple movies now, has it? EVERYTHING IS BLEAK AND NOT WORTH LIVING.

So yeah, loved it, totally fangirled with Bunny on the way home.

movies, harry potter
