The further adventures of Saru-chan the Poofy-tailed

Last night I was sitting on the couch when qarylla got home. As she walked through the door, another cat ran in. The newcomer, who had no tags, met Saru-chan near the bedroom door, and tried to chat her up. Our fuzzball made herself look big and hissed a bit. We locked her in the bedroom while trying to decide what to do with the cat who followed us home. Apparently, it was loafed out on the stairs by our door when qarylla got home, waiting to join us.

We tried to bribe it with food, then chased it out into the hall so we could free Saru-chan. We then started knocking on the other doors in the condo, asking if anyone misplaced a cat. The person who lives directly above us does have a cat, but didn't recognize the description we gave. She offered to let us meet her furball, Molly (and to teach qarylla how to spin), but as no cat was forthcoming, we moved on. No one else claimed to know the cat, but the one youth who lives in the complex ran out the door to find the new cat as soon as she was aware that there was one roaming the common areas.

qarylla and I went back to our unit and spent a couple minutes trying to figure out what to do. We decided to call a shelter, and I was about to go inside to get the phone when our upstairs neighbor trudged downstairs, calling for Molly. Apparently, it was her cat after all. She told us that some days, she is allowed out, and spends her time conversing with Saru-chan through the door. All felines were returned to their proper homes, and our fuzzball was bribed into forgetting anything ever happened.
