The Yu Gardens was built during the Ming Dynasty in 1559. Other than being an ancient and significant private garden, its various stone structures, pagodas and pavilions provided excellent photo opportunities for tourists. Admission is 40Y and the location in which Yu Garden is sited belonged to the old Shanghai city area as it is known during the Qing Dynasty. A City God Temple (城隍庙) nearby is also famous and so is the touristy shopping belt that surrounds the gardens.
