Indian land
We stayed at the
Hampton Inn in Kayenta, Arizona, in the middle of Indian land, but the breakfast was still the typical American one. Anyway, you need a stable start to be able to handle all the tough sightseeings. XD
Peanut butter is good.
If you think the food isn't hot enough, why not have some chili? Just pick one from the lamp....? ^^;
Driving through the Indian Reservation wasn't really a happy and pleasant sight. The landscape is boring, the houses worn out, the cattle and horses neglected; sight depressing. I feel bad for the people living there and it's sad to hear that they are poor and can't really get out of their problems. After all those romantic stories about Indians, is this what's left? >,<
Canyons in the background.
Their handcraft is still very beautiful and admirable, but is that the only "culture" left? Can you really tell it's Indian crafts or only stuff manufactures in vast amounts? It looks the same to me as those crafts made in Asia for just tenth the price. It's not that easy to earn one's living on tourists who hold their money tightly.
Kame, kame, kame ~
Grand Canyon
A small canyon on our way to the big ones.
Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona.
It's a mighty sight, isn't it?
At times like these, you really feel small.
Let's have an even better look from the
Indian Watchtower!
Inside the tower there are a lot of paintings, made by or telling about the Indians, I've forgot... ^^;
Getting upstairs.
Now I think we really deserve some food... XD
Hot dogs in bags. Very convenient. Mine is the tasty-looking one, with bostongurka and pepper.
Going to another spot to have another point of view. We did a little bit of hiking, not too far though.
Can you see me going downwards in my blue shirt and cap? ^^
My knees were a bit shaky...
Hiking carelessly (without enough water and food) is dangerous. You can read about how to hike smartly
here. There is a story about Marathon runner
Margaret L. Bradley who died when she went on a hiking with her friend in the Grand Canyon.
