We blocked most of act one today, and talked characterization. Conclusions: Rhoda and Kenneth have a definite Electra complex sort of vibe going-- this being the cause of much of Christine's trouble with Rhoda. Christine is incredibly dependant and has some daddy issues of her own, and Emory may or may not have a humongous crush on either Kenneth or Tasker. Yes, people, this just goes to show that Monica is right-- everything really does come down to sexuality. Speaking of which, there's probably going to be Terrysnoggage within scene one, which I am Less Than Pleased about, because I've always found stage kisses awkward, and Terry's likely to make it more awkward. Joy. But the cast for this show is looking really great, particularly Luke as Leroy. This whole thing is going to be hysterically funny. Grant's adding in some visual gags, too-- for example, Luke will be making his first entrance wearing a Freddy Krueger mask and carrying a chainsaw. I'm not sure how some of these are going to work out, but I guess we'll see once we get further along in the rehearsal process. Really, though, either they'll work or Grant will cut them as soon as it becomes evident that they won't. I'm so excited about this show I'm getting obsessive, which is strange because I'm actually having a lot of trouble with Christine so far. XD But-- Grant is not stupid, and he must have seen something that made him think I'd do well in the part, so I'm going to do what I can to work it out and make something of her.
I've also reached new heights of bibliophilia. I need to buy clothes soon, badly, and I had money today with which I could at least have gotten a couple of shirts, but instead I ended up at Barnes & Noble and am now in possession of Oliver Twist and Tipping the Velvet. (Someday I'll read something set outside of the Victorian era, really I will.) And Tipping the Velvet is already one of the best books I've ever read and I'm only about 14 pages in.
