I had my first practice today with my team of fourth grade girls. I liked them all, but there's one girl on the team who's way more advanced than the others, and it's going to be a challenge to get her to treat it like a real team sport. She's advanced AND competitive. So...yeah.

I was woefully underprepared for the first practice. I had no idea what level they'd be at, and of course it spans a huge range. The drills I'd planned for didn't hold anyone's attention for more than a few moments, and they're so disparate in skill that team drills are kind of hard to figure out. But at least now I know what I'm working with and I'll be better prepared for next week.

Lately when I've been catching up with friends I haven't seen in a while, I get the same response from all of them. They either come right out and say it, or they give me that looks that's like "DAMN, GIRL, how did you get to be such a train wreck?" Hello, my name is Meg and I was put on this earth to serve as a cautionary tale. TAKE HEED.

I'm doing okay, though. Things are a little sad/frustrating/exhausting lately, but those have kind of been my prevailing feelings for the last bunch of years, so I'm well practiced in staying functional throughout the difficult parts. One foot in front of the other. Repeat. And again...

Some things I'm really enjoying right now:
Mandolin is going well. I'm getting a lot better and enjoying what I'm learning on it.
I seem to be on a fitness upswing. Hope it continues.
I'm seeing Ozzie tomorrow for the first time since he was adopted.
I found this app that records noises that you make in your sleep...it's noise-activated so it's not like it records all night long and I have hours of playback to search. It catches the highlights, and on most nights, there are a few minutes' worth of things to hear. Some talking. Some meowing (the cat, not me...probably). Lots of farting. It's a fun little toy.
