“This is insane!”

Leeteuk continued to yell as they were pulled higher and higher into the sky. Kangin only chuckled at the other’s desperate cries for mercy. It was a rare sight to see Leeteuk so flustered, and Kangin was enjoying every second of it. The normally composed, responsible leader had been reduced to a babbling, incoherent mess. And it was all thanks to him.

“You’re going to pay for this!”

Leeteuk had intended for the words to come off as a threat. However, dangling 100 feet above ground with nothing but a flimsy cord attached to you had made it sound more like a whimper. Kangin ignored him, whooping in delight when the two of them had finally reached the top. He loved these kinds of rides, anticipation and adrenaline coursing through his veins. Having Leeteuk beside him? Well, that was an added bonus.

“We’re going to die. We’re going to die.”

Leeteuk chanted as he clutched the other’s arm, his tight grip nearly cutting off all the circulation to Kangin’s arm. He didn’t mind though, since this was one of the few times Leeteuk had initiated any sort of physical contact. Sure, there was the whole fanserive thing, but everyone knew they were nothing like that in private. His real relationship with Leeteuk was nothing but pure, platonic friendship. It made Kangin frustrated.

“We’re going to die and it’s all your fault!”

Technically, it had been his own fault for taking up a bet he knew he would lose. Pride, it both made a man and destroyed him. Kangin had challenged Leeteuk to a simple poker game, rigging the cards beforehand so he would definitely win. Turns out, he didn’t even need to cheat because Leeteuk was absolutely terrible. Tell the man to sing and dance, no problem. Tell the man to lie, impossible.

The stakes had been simple - a day at the newly opened amusement park with the winner in charge. The loser had to do anything and everything the other asked him to, and that included accompanying him on rides.

“Kangin!”

He heard Leeteuk shriek at the top of his lungs when they were released, freefalling for the longest 5 seconds in Leeteuk’s entire life before bouncing back. Kangin was laughing, heart racing at the familiar stomach dropping sensation. Leeteuk screaming his name had nothing to do with the sudden flush in his cheeks. Nothing at all.

“I hate you. I hate you. I hate you.”

Leeteuk squeezed his eyes shut as they fell for a second time. How he had even agreed to this, the older man had no idea. It was sheer torture! Who in their right minds would deem this as fun? Kangin, he supposed, but he had always been a weird one. The thought brought a smile to his lips before another drop had him screeching for his mom.

“I love you.”

Kangin whispered when he thought Leeteuk was too distracted to hear. It felt good to finally say it. He knew he would never be able to confess to Leeteuk properly but this was enough for him. Kangin didn’t need an answer; he didn’t even need the other to know. Things would only get complicated with SM and fans and so on.

But Kangin was wrong, because Leeteuk had heard every word. He blinked in surprise, momentarily forgetting about the ride as he turned towards the younger man. Kangin wasn’t looking at him but who else could he have been talking to? Leeteuk swallowed nervously.

“Wha-what did you just say?”

They dropped for the n-th time but the feeling of fear was lost to Leeteuk. He gaze was fixed on Kangin, waiting for some sort of response. To be honest, he wasn’t quite sure what he wanted to hear. Leeteuk was only aware of the fact that his heart was beating too fast, pounding almost painfully against his ribs. Something told him it wasn’t all because of the ride.

“I didn’t say anything!”

Panic flashed across Kangin’s face before he managed to hide it. Anyone else and they would have missed the fleeting look. Leeteuk, however, would always be Leeteuk. He narrowed his eyes in suspicion and shot Kangin a warning glare. He hated being lied to, almost as much as he hated lying.

“I just-! I can’t-!”

Kangin sputtered, not knowing what to say without completely humiliating himself. Leeteuk waited patiently. It wasn’t as if he was going anywhere anytime soon. It amused him that Kangin was acting completely out of character. The usual confidence was gone, the straightforwardness was lost. Leeteuk almost laughed out loud when he noticed Kangin was blushing.

“You said you loved me.”

“I-!”

Kangin let out an exasperated breath. Great, how was he going to get out of this one? He was too busy racking his brain for an excuse to notice Leeteuk smiling secretly. Could he get away with the whole ‘as a friend’ thing? Maybe ‘as a brother’? But he would be lying if he said either of those.

“You weren’t supposed to hear that...”

Kangin mumbled, dreading the older man’s reaction. For as long as he had known Leeteuk, the leader had always placed Super Junior first. Anything that threatened the group would simply be wiped away. And surely, Kangin’s more than-than-platonic feelings for him would be classified as potentially detrimental. He couldn’t help but curse silently in his head. Now his friendship was on the line as well.

“Kangin, I actually-”

Leeteuk had to cut his sentence off as the ride came to a complete stop. Two of the workers were already making their way over to undo the clasps, and Leeteuk couldn’t afford to let his secret slip out to the ears of the public. Gossip was a terrible thing, especially when you’re an idol.

Kangin watched Leeteuk carefully, silently trying to gauge his answer. A little part of him was disappointed but if it had been a rejection, then he was grateful for the interruption. Kangin didn’t think he could bare to hear the words. It was bad enough Leeteuk was paired with Sora on We Got Married.

Their eyes connected for a brief second and Leeteuk gave him a gentle smile. Kangin’s breath hitched. It still amazed him how his heart would respond to every little thing Leeteuk did. A slight glance towards his direction, an accidental brush against his arm, anything. It drove him crazy.

Kangin was falling alright, and this time he wasn’t even strapped in. There was no guarantee he wouldn’t get hurt. He could only hope that Leeteuk would be there to catch him.

But Leeteuk wasn’t there. Because he was falling too. Right beside Kangin.
