[Work] Dealing With Big Asks

Jan 09, 2007 05:23

Appraisal as expected: big shiny on the big ask1, with a tap on the nose for schedule2 and development opportunities on the step-change3; expection on groundwork established4, which I'm hoping is not a softening in preparation of February5

1Delivery of a strategic client reporting framework, from scratch, whilst working remote from the primary business line and building a new team in a new location to do so
2Everyone underestimated the complexity, including me, not just of what we were building but making people thinking in the way they needed to think to build it
3If our forecast holds I will be managing a dozen people this year, from none at the start of last year; unsurprisingly there are some management skills I need to build upon
4Prelimenary feedback is excellent, but the next few months will see us pushing the framework out across a number of business lines as well as broadening the functional base
5Compensation review

introspection, myself, work
