I still think that the greatest kindness shown to me was someone trying to berate me. There was a question I was not asking myself until that day. “Why am I here?”
I don't get mad at you if I don't think you are capable or willing to do it. I'm mad at myself for resource management. The big resource being time. Seeing the arguments that I have gotten into with people, the biggest divide in line for me is not race or gender or even class. It is good faith versus bad faith. I can deal with you even if I have nothing in common with you, as long as you argue in good faith.
While this revelation is situation specific, it made it so I can forgive my past self and deal more genuinely in the future. And separate myself from them. That exchange is over. Those who pride themselves on being tough have no value to me when I need discernment more. The slippage of time as one gets older means I need quality, not quantity. So if you tell me you’re not quality, I’m not trying to change you, advise you, mold you … I don’t have the time. The one thing that my critics are right about are the circumstances that bring me into arguing with them. I wouldn’t be stuck in fights I can’t win if I’m avoiding those whom I can’t win with.
I salute them - from a distance. I now know the things I have to do. Thank you for your time.
