After five years of school and work, I took three weeks completely off after graduation. I felt as busy as I was during school, but I was doing all the things I wanted to do. During those three weeks, I went to the beach 8 times, played 108 holes of golf, took a road trip and visited 8 friends in 5 cities (Tallahassee, Gainesville, Orlando, Jupiter, and Melbourne), played soccer, beach volleyball, tennis, and several other things I can't recall right now. It was fun, but also exhausting. And now it's time to move onto the next phase of life...work.
I'm now full time at Eglin AFB, working for the same group that I was interning with. I'm pretty happy with the job. A lot of it will require some knowledge from my engineering classes, and some of it will be brand new to me. I work 9 hour days, 7:00 to 4:30 (with a 30 minute lunch), which means I have to wake up at 5:15 daily. Might sound bad, but you get used to it. I'm in bed each night between 9:30-10:00, so no more weekday night life for me. I'm living with my parents in Pensacola (Niceville & FWB are way too expensive to live in), but I'm in a 4-man carpool, so I only have to drive one week out of the month (cutting my gas bill by 75%). I also get 3 hours of on-the-clock physical training (PT) each week, so three days feel like an 8-hour day. Also, the 9th hour each day goes into a "comp time" account I can use whenever I want (helping me save my leave). Lastly, I will prolly get to travel around the country with this job.
It's fun being the youngest one around. They still call me "Sunshine" after the Remember the Titans character. The older ones tend to cuss a lot around me (I think that they think that they are "talking my language", which makes them cooler). They point out young (20's) girls that I "should hook up with." They ask me about drinking games (beer pong, quarters, etc) that they assumed I played throughout college.
Not too many big plans for the summer. I'll be traveling to Maryland on June 21-24 for the UAV competition. Then I'll have a 5-day weekend on July 4th-July 8th as a mid-summer break. If we get any hurricanes, I might evacuate and visit some people in Tallahassee. We'll see what happens.
Now back to work...
