My thoughts from last night's episode...

1x16 - Home
My firs thought on this episode is that I loved the emotional aspect of this entire episode. I feel like the first two of the back nine were not character centric. In this episode, I feel like they really delved into a deeper, more emotional space than in the previous episodes, where they were more light-hearted.

I loved the interaction between Mercedes and Quinn. Quinn is one of my favorite characters and she hasn't been getting a lot of dialogue thus far in the back nine. I was really pleased to see she had a little dialogue and what little she had was really powerful.

Let's talk about Kristin. I adore her. Love, love, love her. First of all, I was really happy that they gave her ballads. The first time she was on, I feel like her songs didn't show her vocal prowess. Don't get me wrong, "Alone", "Maybe This Time", and "Last Name" are great, great songs, but I feel like the selections she sang last night were spot on for her.

I thought "One Less Bell to Answer/A House is Not a Home" was beautifully and ranks high up there in my favorite performances across the entire series thus far. Matthew sounds great. Kristin sounds great. It was just beautiful.

I did not like Kurt's selfish motivations for getting Burt and Carol together. When his plan started to backfire, he decided he didn't like it, however much his father and Carol were invested in the relationship. I'm happy to see Finn be able to interact with a male figure and I think Burt is a great fit to what Finn has been missing. It's nice to see Carol be able to move on and see Finn struggle with it, but eventually see the better side.

I was disappointed to see Sue reap any benefit from Mercedes's actions at the pep rally. I knew it was coming, but I still didn't want it. Merecedes's has always been a character comfortable in her own skin, just as Quinn said. To see her struggle and pull through in the end actually made me semi-like her.

My overall thought is that this episode is the best thus far. There were really no gimmicks to this episode. It was pure, raw emotion and actually focused more on the kids. Yes, there was the Will/April pieces in there, but I feel like the more memorable portions were with Merecedes and/or Finn, Kurt, Carl, and Burt.

Favorite line? "I think my cat's been reading my diary." Brittany has the best one-liners.
Favorite performance? "One Less Bell to Answer/A House is Not a Home" - I love how this was shot. I love how this was acted and performed. It shows the true loneliness that both Will and April are feeling./lj-cut>

peace.
