Recent Revelation
I meant to write this about a week ago, but kept putting it off. But then, the subject of this post invaded my dreams last night. So I've decided to finally get off my butt and do this.
Earlier this year, while channel flipping late one night, I stumbled upon the pilot episode of a modern reboot of an 80's cartoon. As the cartoon had just started, I decided to check it out. And while I thought it was an improvement over the original, I didn't take all that much interest in it.
And my thoughts on this cartoon remained as such for the next few months. Then, while doing Google Image searches for internet memes, I stumbled across one using this cartoon for its image. I was intrigued. I started periodically searching for image-based memes that specifically used this cartoon. As I did so, my interest slowly began to rise. And so did my exposure to the cartoon's fanart, as well as bits and pieces of its rebooted lore. With my interest rising ever further, I began to specifically seek out the fanart itself. I also began researching and connecting those bits of lore within the show's inpressively extensive wiki. This led to many surprises; for example, many of the characters I had seen in fanart are nothing more than unnamed background characters in the show itself. Their names and personalites, as seen in fan creations, were nothing more than fanon in their own right! By this time, my interest had grown sufficiently that I wanted to watch the cartoon itself once again, to get a better idea of what exactly had created such an ardent fanbase. This proved difficult, as it was no longer on air late at night. Nonetheless, I was able to catch the occasional episode, and quickly discovered, that I really enjoyed the cartoon. That was about a month ago, and that's when I became a brony.
That last line wasn't a joke. And for those of you who don't know what bronies are, its the name of the surprisingly large male fanbase of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic." Yes, you read that title correctly; indeed, had someone told me a few months ago that I would become a fan of something "My Little Pony"-related, I'd have called them crazy. But I guess a person could be crazy and still be right...
As for that dream I had, I don't actually remember very much of it. What I do remember is that I was either playing a video game where I had control of a post-apocalyptic settlement, or was actually a member of said settlement myself. (Indeed, I have often had dreams where my mind can't decide whether I'm merely playing a game, or actually living within the dream world.) At any rate, the cartoon connection would be this: one of the many resources you could scavenge in this world/game is an entertainment-boosting resource called "ponies".
