No, you're right. The civil war is extremely interesting. What I think is interesting is that the politics that started the war haven't changed much in the last 145 years. If you look at gay marriage, for instance, you have the Democrats in favor of states deciding their own laws, and the Republicans in favor of national control and leaving nothing to the states to decide. That same logic, split the same way down the political parties, was applied to the issue of slavery in the 1860 election, giving the South one reason for succession (and no, I won't do the 'hi, I'm stupid' argument that the Civil War was only about slavery).
When you're done with The Last Full Measure, can I borrow it? I just finished Killer Angels last night, and would like to read the last one in the series.
