Over 620,000 Americans died in the war, with disease killing twice as many as those lost in battle. 50,000 survivors return home as amputees. taken from this page that has a historical timeline.. i was trying to figure out the numbers this weekend i thought it was over 600,000 but i wasnt sure... guess i was right....
now onward... think about all the wars we have been in since... yet the most american blood was dropped on this soil brother against brother... i am so fascinated with the civil war and have been since high school... it is a remarkable war... friend pit against each other because of their allegiances to their states or their beliefs.... and then just men joining and the men didnt know what they were fighting for.... the soldiers on the fields... laying there helpless and hoping that it will end from 1861-1865 the war lasted... i have been thinking so much about the civil war lately... of course it doesnt help that i have continued reading the last full measure... but also doing research on it on my own.... the battles fought the men in them all lost and confused.. consumed by the fight and learning to see there friends dead using them as shielding when needed.... the struggle of fighting an old friend who just happens to be fighting on the other side.... these are things i think about... how this all happens its all pretty crazy.... is there anyone else especially interested in the civil war.... i know a lot of the battles and that shit too.... so if anyone wants to discuss this topic with me please feel free too... and yes i am a dork
