We're heading back to Florence tomorrow, where we'll visit Il Duomo della Santa Maria della Fiore (with Brunelleschi's dome) and Museo d'Opera, and something else which I've forgotten. So I figured I'd present the pics from the last time we went to Florence (i.e. a week ago), because if I don't do it now, I never will, as I'm tired and somewhat lazy.

Through this gate, we were now "officially" in Firenze...
And this is how the city first showed itself to us
Il Ponte Vecchio
Santa Croce, which is the final resting place of...
Gallileo...
Michelangelo...
Macchiavelli...
...and a memorial to Dante Aligheri, who was actually exiled from Florence and died in Ravenna.
Celing of a chapel at S. Croce
Vaulting in the cloisters
Speaking of cloisters...
And a statue of Dante outside S. Croce.
Speaking of Dante, this was his house...
...and the trattoria next door where we had lunch.
After lunch, we stood around in the piazza, waiting for our profs, and got a little bored...

Shortly after lunch, the LAND students got back on the bus to visit the American WWII cemetary outside of Florence.
George Keathly was an Aggie, and one of the few to be awarded a Medal of Honor by a general whose name I can't remember. The Aggie ring you see is mine. "Had it not been for his indomitable courage and incomparable heroism, the remnants of 3 rifle platoons of Company B might well have been annihilated by the overwhelming enemy attacking force. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service."
