It's the Italian Pic Spam of Doom! Part One! Included herein is Castiglion Fiorentino and Arezzo, the former being the town where we live. The center of the town dates to Medieval times, including the wall. However, recent excavations have discovered evidence of settlement dating back to Etruscan times.

Arezzo is the biggest city to the north, and only about 10 minutes away by train. Every year they have a jousting tournament (Giostra del Saracino) between the four quarters of the city, and people get really into it. The city is also home to some lovely frescos, and the final resting place of a pope. One of the Georges?

Replica of an Etruscan statue found in the city; the original is now in Florence, I believe, much to the chagrin of the people of Arezzo

Memorial to Guido Monaco, the monk who developed the modern music scale

A building in Arezzo, but I can't remember which

Another building, but this one is part of the set of main goverment buildings.

A duomo (cathedral) in Arezzo

One of two original medieval carvings in Italy, showing the seasons and months of the year and the associated activites

A large cemetary, almost like a city of dead

Parade for tournament

Red and Green neighborhood supporters; I was with the Blue and Golds, San Spirito. They were by far the loudest, rowdiest, and most obscene. It was great. They had a song which meant something along the lines of, "You're stupid and full of shit."

A jouster
