independence and movies

well i went to see that fahrenheit film and spiderman 2 back to back.

firstly, on friday i was at someones apartment and happened to see spiderman (the first one) which was good timing. good movie too.

then it set me up to see the sequel. 2 was also quite good; good screenplay and all, but sometimes i felt that how could there be so much drama and seriousness in a comic book film.

you always think, wow this is good acting, and then they mention the name spiderman, and i dunno, just seems a LITTLE bit silly.

but out of the 'comic book/cartoon/superkings/vampires/video games' genre films of the past couple years, this is the best.

having said that, i never saw any of the others (garfield, x-men, hellboy (wtf is that???) and then i understand batman is due out sometime next year.

and then i also saw resident evil on friday. a lot better than i wouldve thought.

i havent seen man movies at all in the past few years, basically because i think theyre crap. and while most of them are, im finally hearing good things about movies that make me want to go see them.

i still think ill avoid the notebook, cuz, well that just aint me.

and then right after spiderman ended, i went to the fahrenheit film (and didnt pay; WOO!; so rest assured moore-haters, i didnt support him (financially)).

you know the feeling when you have thoughts or intentions about something beforehand and then your whole mindset changes and you cant remember what your thoughts were before?

well thats kind of the feeling i got from this film.

btw, both movies i saw were good; usually i can be pretty critical of films whenever i see something stupid, repetitive or pointless, but either i forgot about that or these were really exceptional films.

anyway, going back to fahrenheit, i thought it was a great film, based purely cinematically for the moment. his films are always good.

i dont know if i mentioned it earlier, but ive met moore before at Rice (univ.) about 5 or 6 years ago when he was showing his new movie at the time 'The Big One'. I asked him a question in the few minutes he was there, but of course ive forgotten it.

now about his views...

we all knew about the connection to oil, the saudis, etc, but i doubt many of the country knew just how strong it was. basing on the assumption that everything moore had in the film was 100% true and the main reason for going to iraq, afghanistan, etc was money, then its sad.

of course, this is a rhetorical question (because no one will answer it), but: WHY?

its definitely reflective of the (flawed) american society. ill never understand how people in this country can be so money hungry? capitalism sucks when it reaches the powerful.

something ill NEVER understand is how a ceo who makes millions and millions a year and lies in a huge home, has expensive cars, etc has the absolute desire and need for MORE.

athletes belong in a separate class since 95% of the nba grow up in poverty, yet end up in situations where they need to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on jewelry alone. and they still want a larger contract.

but someone has got to answer why a guy who is worth, say, $500 million still needs another couple hundred mill. whats the reason? they wont spend it; is it for their kids? where does the greed come from?

anyway, back to the movie, i definitely see why it was such a big deal to conservatives. if every conservative saw the movie, A LOT of minds would be changed.

of course a lot wont. its like teh extreme opposite of the passion movie.

but 'Michael Moore Hates America' is coming out and I WILL see it. that is where the hypocrisy will be determined. it wont be much of a movie btw.

the impression the movie left on me is how could/can so many people keep trust in bush. i didnt think the whole part about the terrorist warning level was there to just keep everyone worried was that valid because yeah there probably is more of a threat when it is raised, but i knew about how it would never go back down to green or blue, regardless if there was a credible threat or not.

the film made me be more aware and less trusting of the media (specifically fox news, but ive hated them for as long as time with their nonstop and pointless coverage of anything that was just dragged on (like the elian gonzalez stuff for instance).

bush has got to prove that he is capabale of stepping up and leading this country to get another 4 years, but i cant fathom it. his reasonigns that the economy is good and employment is up are kida weak.

i still dunno who ill vote for, but probably not bush. until the debate in spetmeber!

man my deltoids hurt. so sore after back to back workouts (haha). and im headed to mississippi in 7 hours. yeah, itll suck, but theres nothing else to do.
