An email I just sent to our directors of Promotions and Sales

Hey guys,

I was just wondering if we were going to be involved with any of the release parties for the 7th and final Harry Potter book next month. I know that Borders, Barnes & Noble, Page One, and Hastings, all are planning midnite release parties, possibly Bookworks over on Rio Grande as well, and I really think (...) Radio should be a part of one of them. The Albuquerque Public Library is also having a release party for the first 250 people on the hold list for book 7. I think this is a great opportunity to be involved with the community in encouraging our children to read, and could even lead to some sales relationships we might not get otherwise.

As a member of Harry Potter Crafters (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HarryPotterCrafts/ ) I would be willing to volunteer my time to run a craft area where kids could choose to do a craft such as maybe making simple wands, owls, coloring bookmarks, etc. Our group always shares new ideas for fun crafts for various age groups, I can prepare a list of more options and we could choose one or two for several different age levels to have available.

Last night I took my daughter to a free show at South Broadway Cultural Center that included a live Pottercast (http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/pottercast/ ) and a performance by the wizard rock band Harry & the Potters (http://www.eskimolabs.com/hp/ ) . The show was free because it was paid for by the public library system. It was really a shame that they couldn’t fill even half of a 300 seat auditorium. I bet if one or more of OUR stations had been involved it would have been standing-room only!

With the 5th movie and the final book both being released in July, this is truly the “summer of Potter”, and I think it would really benefit us as a radio group to be a part of the excitement and the magic.
