Today I was waiting for BART and listening to my iPod and this lady totally lurked up on me and was standing there next to me. Naturally I find it very weird when people talk to me when I have headphones in my ears, but I took one out of my ear so she could undoubtedly ask me some stupid question about BART. Instead she says, "Did you go to Smith?" pointing at the tote bag that they gave me just because I was admitted. "No," I said, "I'm going next year." Anyways, she launched into this long speech about how she went there and now she does admissions work for them in the East Bay and blahblahblah and she just keeps saying "Congratulations" to me until I don't know what to say back anymore. I gave her my information because she decided that she was going to take me out to lunch at some point. Weird. Nice, though. Anyways, I was glad that I decided to go to Smith, because if I hadn't that exchange could have been very much more awkward than it was.
Yesterday I saw the immigration march thing over in Oakland. It was huge! It was really cool to see all those people. They were all yelling in Spanish and it took me awhile to realize that they were yelling "Si, se puede!" (Yes, you can!). There was a good mix of American flags and Mexican flags, which I thought was cool. When I saw a march about the same thing going on in New York I was confused because so many people had Mexican flags when it seemed like they should have American flags. Here it kind of makes sense for them to have Mexican flags as well since California did used to belong to Mexico. I told my neighbor that I wouldn't mind having California be its own country and Spanish be the national language, and she was totally scandalized. I think it's a good idea anyways. Oh another thing about the protest which I didn't understand was that everyone was wearing white. Does anyone know what that's about? I really want to know.
My internship ends after this week. So I really should start learning my lines for our play. This time has been so nice. I've been able to do fun stuff with friends and also read a lot, which I rarely have time to do when school is in session. I can't wait for summer even though i don't have any plans. I would like to travel somewhere, but I don't know where and I don't know who would go with me.
