I didn't hear about the pregnancy until late last night, as I went to a friends house and slept after dinner until midnight. By then it was old news, though legitimacy was still being established. But it's huge news. Everyone knows. I'm not even a Jamie Lynn fan. Not that I'm a non-fan. I just... didn't follow her or her show or anything. I wasn't even the one who brought it up at school. But I figure that this is like, a huge deal , so I should do a piece on it.
Obviously, the main reason she is being attacked now is because of her age. Not to mention that since motherhood, Britney's gone to shit, and they come from the same gene pool. My thought's will be all over the place on this bit... just depending.
Apparently, Jamie Lynn had a 'pregnancy scare' a few months ago. I never heard anything about this until now. Of course, I've also heard reports that she's actually farther along than she initially reported, so the previous 'scare' could have been mistaked as a negative later on. Who knows? Going with the theory that it was just a scare before and got pregnant after that, you'd think she'd have gone on to be more careful afterwards.
I'm not one of those old-fashioned people that thinks guys and girls can't live together unless they're married. I have no problem with premarital sex (at least, I don't think I do. I'm a 20-year-old virgin, so I can't speak form experience, but really, who cares if you're married or not?), or anything like that. But Jamie Lynn is 16, and that's where I dont' think she should have been living with her 19-year-old boyfriend. Her mom says she's never broken cerfew to which I have to ask why her boyfriend gives her a cerfew? Even if she is home by this supposed cerfew, she's at home with eh rboyfriend where they can have sex all night long.
Yes, she is 16, but you know what? In today's society, that's practically normal. Kids are going out and having sex starting out as early as 12, just from people I've known (personally, when I was twelve, boys still scared the hell out of me, but if anyone has seen the pictures of Vanessa's Hudgen's 12-year-old little sister, Stella, she's hanging all over her 14-year-old boyfriend looking like she wants to get in his pants), and they're having kids. It's happening, you know, even if you choose to ignore it. My best friend had a kid when she was 17. I had friends lose their virginity at 16, 17, and younger. Two of them were definately with older guys (20 for my 16-year-old friend, 30 for my 17-year-old friend). One girl at my school had three kids before she graduated. I had a friend that was born when her mom was 18, and had two older brothers. So what if Jamie Lynn is only 16. She's a lot better off than any of these girls I knew. She can support a baby at least.
One thing that has been bothering me is that people think that Jamie Lynn is the first one to set this bad example for young girls. Publicly, yes. But think about the last years and years and years we've had, and all the teen stars, and you're telling me that not one of them has gotten pregnant? I don't buy it. It just means that Jamie Lynn is the first one stepping up, admitting she made a mistake, willing to pay for what she's done. She's letting her reputation be slandered, losing the respect of young girls everywhere, to take care of a baby, rather than find some back alley somewhere that she can sneak into an abortion clinic and make all sorts of confidentiality agreements be signed like I'm sure other teens stars have to have done at some point. I refuse to believe so many of the girls out there today that have been around since they were younger, that are alwyas getting into trouble and making huge mistakes haven't gotten pregnant before. They all just took the easy way out.
Like, I said, I was never a Jamie Lynn fan, but I don't look down on her for this. I'm still waiting to see an actual tv interview, just for my own tabloid skeptisim. Several magazines have interviewd Britney, the guy's mom and family, and of course, OK! has the Jamie Lynn and mother exlusive (not that any of us can get online to see it because the site has crashed due to traffic), but you know, I want to here Jamie Lynn say it. If it's true, you know, I support her.
