Our integration into small town Idaho is continuing quite nicely. We've got a pretty good grasp of the layout of Sandpoint as a result of our weekend exploration. Work is going well, and Audrey has found a job of her own. I'm flying a bunch, and I'm working up a pretty good roadmap for adding on some selected ratings and endorsements.
Perhaps more importantly, though, we've learned not to pay attention to weather forecasts. Take today, for example. The forecast told us that it would be overcast, with a chance of snow. This morning, as I was sliding down the driveway to my car, I noticed that indeed it was overcast. It remained that way until just after lunch. Lo and behold, after lunch, it snowed... for about five minutes. Fifteen minutes after that? Sun. Twenty minutes later, it was overcast again... and as I drove home from work, I couldn't help but think that it was turning out to be a lovely night, with scattered high cirrus and a bright moon... until ten minutes ago, when it started raining. I'm not even done with this entry, and it's stopped raining. Current conditions are: overcast.
It's really hard to keep track of weather like this... it's making flight planning guesswork at best (though I've been thus far very lucky) and since all of these wild-ass weather changes are occurring at or around the freezing point, we haven't seen good snowboarding weather in some time. Not that I'm complaining, of course. Merely pointing out that if the weather would make up its freaking mind, maybe I'd be able to make freaking plans that I could freaking stick to. Dammit.
In truth, no worries. After all, none of this weather is happening through a layer of smog as thick as Atlanta's, so if you get caught out in the cold rain, you're at least clean when you dry off. And you dry off faster, too, thanks to the low humidity. I'm looking forward to the summer- I'm told that it's a very pleasant kind of quite warm in July. Good sailing weather.
Better build a boat. Now taking suggestions (reasonable suggestions,
henkkuli) for size and sail plan...
