Advice for an Eikaiwa Employee with a JET Interview

Jan 16, 2010 00:00

Hello everyone. I just found out this morning (in Japan) that I have an interview with JET in February.
I will be returning to Canada at that time to do the interview.
My question is this. How should I play the " I have been working in Japan as an English Teacher for 2 years" card?
Should I only talk about it if they bring it up, do the Japanese thing and downplay it a bit but not to a derogatory level or?
I mean, I know teaching in an Eikaiwa is not the same as a public school but I did receive a lot of praise for my skills as a teacher and my natural ability to work with kids of all ages (not trying to sound cocky) should I mention these things, tactfully of course, or only if they ask me?

Sorry this may seem paranoid but I'm worried. I don't want my experience as a teacher and in Japan to be to my detriment in this interview.

Thank you.
