Mushishi by Yuki Urushibara

Just finished the last installation of Mushishi manga.  A very thick one covering volumes 8 to 10.

So far, i've watched the anime (subbed) / watched the live movie adaptation (raw) / and, read all 10 volumes released by DelRey.

And my conclusion?  A huge THUMBS UP (even the raw).

Why?  I'm always a sucker for nice bright guys as the leading character.  Ginko (the Mushishi) survived his tragic childhood:  losing his parents, losing his "shishio", seeing things others can't...  and, to top it all, he can't even put down roots anywhere as he is a "mushi" magnet...

Not all mushi are good, and since he attracts all kinds, it's a huge problem not just to himself but to the people living in the area.  So, poor Ginko is destined to be a nomad, wandering from place to place.  But does he go wild and rage at his fate?

Nope...  Ginko trains and uses his abilities to go around helping people as a sort of herbal healer known as a MUSHISHI.  Now, isn't that a great guy?

Of course, the manga's art is simple and i keep seeing the same faces everywhere, but, the characters are grass roots people who work hard to live from day to day.

Also, please don't consider Ginko a tobacco endorser, he just smokes to keep the mushi at a tolerable level.

MUSHISHI...  thumbs up!  Re-watch anime from time to time?  a definite YES!
