Sighthounds!!!
I emailed Billy's Daycare for some details about their training courses. I have decided that I can only learn so much about dog training from books, and I need a mentor. Most importantly Barbie needs to be trained in different environments. Also, Billy's is a 600 sqm indoor property with no cages which will be a nice, safe place for us to work on Barbie's recall. I'm going to get a long line for her as well and use it with her harness, so that we can do 'recalls' at other places, like the river and the beach. Anyway, we already have a connection with Billy's because Nic took Bender there for quite some weeks before they decided that he was too people-focussed to be a regular attendee. Rebecca, the owner of the place said in her reply "your name looks familiar, do you live with Bender?"
My first question was if the trainer had any experience with sighthounds. The answer was, yes, and the trainer herself has a whippet x that she trains for movie roles. She sounds cool. I think her job would be my dream job! Anyway, I have been inspired by Jennifer and her dogs and if I can get Barbie the opportunity to tackle some agility equipment that would be great. I want to join an obedience/agility club but they all operate in open parks so Barbie's going to have to have reliable recall before I can take her to those venues. That or she will have to work on a long line and that presents some safety issues... and would be impossible to do the weave poles!
