riding home...

Last night, went to go over the Northbridge overpass, and there was a guy in front on a scary mountain bike which seemed to have a stiff link in the chain or some other drivetrain problem, so as he rode up the incline his chain was jumping, making a horrible clunking sound... so I hung back and pulled in to the line of peds heading over the bridge. When he got onto the flat part of the bridge, I pulled out again, and there was a line of cyclists sitting up my ass. It really annoys me when they are so close, on such a crowded overpass. And there are these stupid hairpin gates.

Once we got on the flat a couple of the wheel-huggers overtook me - both men in lycra, one on a bike which had 'liquigas' team stickers all over it.

The bike commuters that annoy me the most are the ones who pretend like it's the Tour and they wheel suck and speed around blind corners and scare the crap out of the peds. And they are such weight weenies they can't spare the extra 30 grams on their handlebars for a bell. Then there are those horrid bicycles with 80cc petrol motors attached. I hate hate hate them. They are loud and the 2-stroke fumes make my throat hurt. They are much worse than having a car go past you. Electric bikes are nice and quiet and don't stink so I don't mind them at all, but electric motors and batteries are more expensive to buy.

In other news, Nic has been sick on and off for almost a week. I'm starting to feel sniffly too. I hope it's not the 'flu. That would be very annoying.

flu, cycling
